In Carboeiro only the monument, symbol of the whole region is named: Carboeiro Monastery, (historic monument since the year 1931), which due to its importance is cited in more detail on other pages on this website. Nevertheless, this ensemble bordered by the river Deza, has other constructions that are well worth a day’s visit. Hence, the well-known Ponte do Demo (Devil’s Bridge) that connected within the jurisdiction of Carboeiro, the monastery with the parishes under its authority, Carbia, Fontao, Merza and Bodaño. Also of interest is its ethnographic heritage, the restored mill, dovecote and trough of sulfurous waters.
As for festivals and cultural activities, of note are those in honour of San Lourenzo on August 10th, the folk festival and the permanent exhibitions that are organized in the monastic buildings.
Last but not least, it is worth highlighting the flora and fauna indigenous to the area which forms part of the Ulla – Deza River System and is a Site of Community Importance within the Natura 2000 network.
