Originally Romanesque, it retains a beautiful primitive 12th century entrance, consisting of two pairs of columns supporting the archivolt rings with checkered bezants and frieze. Also worth high lighting are the zoomorphic and vegetation capitals supporting a curious bilobed tympanum in the straight section.
In the 18th century it had to be enlarged to accommodate the devotees of Sta. Sabela, celebrated and honored above all on 2nd July by thousands of pilgrims.
Of this century the striking elegance of the temple tower stands out, the rich baroque altarpieces and three granite reliefs, and on the outside, the combination of the atrium with its sober access stairs, the houses that frame it and the stage for the celebration of special occasions.
